Owners of cars advertised for sale have been warned to be vigilant after vehicles were stolen in north and west Kent.

Officers are investigating the theft of five Mercedes and a BMW, between November 15 and December 11, at addresses in Medway, Maidstone and Dartford.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Stock picture

In each case the cars had been advertised and then viewed by prospective buyers, prior to them being stolen during the hours of darkness and without the use of the owners’ keys.

Detective Constable Billie-Louise Mills, of the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad, said: "I would remind owners of high value cars to take care when allowing potential purchasers to have access to their vehicle.

"On no account give them possession of the ignition key, even for a few seconds and, if you are suspicious of any visitors, try to take a note of the registration number of their car. Also retain any private CCTV footage you have installed at your address as a precaution."
