An animal rights activist has started a petition which has got 3,000 signatures asking Bluewater shopping centre to stop selling real fur products.

Robyn Murphy, 23, of The Tideway, Rochester started the petition after seeing a display of coats made from coyote fur in the shopping centre.

Miss Murphy said: “I saw in the window of the store Choice that they were stocking Canada Goose Jackets, who use real fur and other jackets which clearly used animal hair.

"It ignited a rage inside me, I couldn't believe how loud and proud they were about it."

She then went inside the store to have a better look at the jackets.

The University of Kent Student said: "I didn't want to talk to the sales assistants as I know it's not their fault but next time I'm going to talk the managers.

"It's so sad, I went to a protest outside Canada Goose in London, why would they want to cause such suffering to an animal, literally for a fluffy trim.

"It's really easy to tell if fur is real or not if you burn it, the smell will either be plastic or similar to if you burn your own hair.

"Or fake fur is usually very blunt on the end but real fur is more feathered."

She started the petition five days ago on change.org and it has attracted more than 3,000 signatures.

Bluewater spokesman Holly Blake said: "We do not comment on behalf of a retailer or give information about specific stock."

Choice has been contacted for comment.

Canada Goose website says: "We believe all animals are entitled to humane treatment in life and death, and we are deeply committed to the ethical sourcing and responsible use of all animal materials in our products.

"We do not condone any willful mistreatment, neglect, or acts that maliciously cause animals undue suffering.

"Our standards for the sourcing and use of fur, down and wool reflect our commitment that materials are sourced from animals that are not subject to willful mistreatment or undue harm."
