A rapper is giving himself one last chance to break into the industry and hopes a new Christmas song might pave the way for him.

For the last decade, James Hutch has been waxing lyrical and primarily poking fun at his hometown.

The postman, from Rainham, went viral with his last song in 2022, which was seen by more than half a million people online.

Since then, the 32-year-old has had a son and has taken a step back from his music, but he’s now looking to give it one more go.

He said: “It was just a bit of a laugh and I thought I would bring some festive spirit.

“It is an X-rated video so not your typical Christmas song but I hope people will enjoy it.”

James, known as Hutch, has been “spitting bars” for 10 years and released two albums.

He is hoping to release a third this summer, this time independently, having split from his label two years ago.

He said: “It just wasn’t working for me. I wasn’t feeling like I was getting what they promised.

“My son was also just born and I wanted to focus on being a father.

“I’m getting on a bit now though so I’m giving it one more good go.”

The festive song titled “Christmas in Medway” follows suit to his previous EP which features many key landmarks in the Towns.

The well-known Thomas Waghorn statue in Chatham makes an appearance in his music video, as does The Greedy Banker in Rainham. Hutch has even roped in a cameo from infamous Medway icon Billy the Quid.

The trailer for the new song was released on Wednesday, December 13, and has already been viewed more than 30,000 on TikTok and Instagram.

The full song was released on Monday.
