A toddler was taken to hospital after a car hit a lamppost.

The crash happened just after 3pm today outside Strood Fire Station in Gravesend Road, and firefighters were first on the scene.

Firefighters made the scene safe, managed traffic and looked after the occupants of the car - which included a female passenger in her late 20s - until police and ambulance crews arrived.

It is not thought anyone was seriously injured, but a three-year-old child was taken to Medway Hospital by paramedics to be assessed.

The car, a Vauxhall Vectra, was written off and a lamppost was damaged.
