A charity race due to be held this weekend has been postponed so more people can take part.
The Medway Town and Gown 10k, organised by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, was due to take place on June 6. Organisers have decided to put it off until the start of next year’s running season in the hope more people will sign up.
Event coordinator Alun Mainwaring said: “We have had some amazing support for the event from some local people in the area, particularly from families who have been affected by muscle disease.
“However, June is a busy time for runs and we’d like to get as many people as possible taking part. We think we’d have a better chance of achieving that at another time of year.”
Last year, 300 people took part in the first race but this year organisers were hoping for about 1,000 runners. The race involves local people and students from the four universities in the Towns. The average time of the two teams will be calculated to see which group is the winner.
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is dedicated to improving the lives of all children and adults affected by muscle disease. Those who have signed up for this year’s race will get a full refund.
