Rochester was in the spotlight last night as one of the nation's most gripping murder mystery programmes returned to our screens.

Shots of the town, including the cathedral, castle and river, were featured for the opening episode of the fourth series of top-rated Unforgotten.

Stars Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhasker play detectives in Unforgotten

The ITV show sees two detectives try to solve a gruesome cold case.

It started with the discovery of a dismembered corpse in a scrap metal yard believed to have been kept in a freezer for 30 years.

The investigation, headed by DCI Cassie Stewart (Nicola Walker) and DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar), will lead them to Medway where one of four suspects, businessman Dean Barton, lives with his family.

Seemingly a legitimate character who is involved organising charity events, Barton's darker past emerges later on.

The plot thickens when the character played by Andy Nyman takes a call from an old colleague seeking a favour and needs help moving a "shipment".

His dodgy previous life reveals he has the connections to help dispose of and hide a body for 30 years.

It is looking like Barton's apparent normal life living in Rochester with wife Marnie, disabled adult son Jack and his brother Casper could be about to fall apart.

Unforgotten screens on Mondays at 9pm and is also available on the ITV hub.
