Hundreds of people flocked to a town centre to see a spectacular lights event.

Rochester was lit up as part of a festival of light which aims to transform iconic buildings and spaces into works of art.

Medway Light Nights also includes performance projected onto the castle walls, parades through the High Street and gardens and car parks hosting exhibits and a lot more.

The council in partnership with Emergency Exit Arts has commissioned local, national and internationally-renowned artists, to work alongside Towns' young people and communities, to deliver the event.

There are optical illusions created by light, sound and mirrors produced by Lucid Creates, a lantern parade and outdoor film by Cohesion Plus, a mass movement performance by Icon Theatre and multiple art installations, a fire display and a poetry trail.

There is also several Charles Dickens-themed sights including a mural by street artist Dream Safari, which can be spotted next to his chalet in Eastgate Gardens where the author worked on his novels.

Speaking ahead of the event, deputy council leader Cllr Howard Doe said: “This is Medway’s next major display of the area’s diverse, innovative and thriving creative spirit.

"I am pleased there will be a wide range of public art installations and performances for residents to enjoy including a spectacular lantern parade. Hundreds of schoolchildren will be taking part in the parade.

"Medway Light Nights also supports our cultural strategy, delivered by Creative Medway, and aim for the area to be internationally recognised for its creativity and culture by 2030."

The event stated at 6pm and ran until 9pm. It will be held tomorrow as well at the same times.
