Drivers were reportedly unable to get out of the St Mary’s Island area and there were knock-on delays around Dockside Outlet Centre.

One motorist said they’d popped out for a quick shop at Asda but hadn’t moved for 30 minutes due to the accident.

A recovery truck arrived shortly after 3.10pm and the crash had been cleared by 3.45pm, but congestion remained for some time after.
