Train passengers were delayed after a lorry hit a level crossing this morning.

Engineers from Network Rail have now fixed the gate at the crossing in Station Road, Cuxton and services were running as normal from 2.30pm.

The accident happened on the Medway Valley line between Strood and Maidstone West at 9.30am and trains were running at a reduced speed through the affected area.

A spokesman for Network Rail said a lorry had hit the crossing gate, which bent the post, snapped the hinge and knocked the gate off.

A crane was used to help bend the post back into place.

Train operator Southeastern tweeted at 1pm to alert passengers of delays.

Earlier today, a spokesman for Southeastern said: "We would ask passengers using the Medway Valley line to please check before they travel after a lorry drove into a level crossing at Cuxton this morning.

"The incident happened around 9.30am and the line has since reopened, but this has had an impact on services with delays of currently up to 15 minutes."
