Everyone has different tips for losing weight, but two men have decided a bit of healthy competition is the best way to help them shed body fat.

Phil Snowden, fat loss and performance coach at The META Studio , was struggling to get his client Andy Wicking to change his eating habits in order to shed the last few percent.

So they set themselves a challenge, Mr Snowden had to get up to Mr Wicking’s body fat percent (22%) and down again, before Mr Wicking reached Mr Snowden’s original percentage (14%) – but by only eating healthily.

Coach Phil Snowden is competing with his client Andy Wicking at META gym, High Street, Chatham.

Five weeks into the challenge and Mr Snowden has now reached 22% with Mr Wicking well over half-way to 14%.

Mr Wicking, who has been going to the studio in Chatham High Street for two years, said: “The one thing I have never managed to achieve is to reduce my body fat.

“For three weeks I felt really down however now I feel really good, really positive and I can see the goal and I feel fantastic, and I’m looking forward to training.”

He has been eating clean foods, lots of vegetables and lots of protein, cut out alcohol and is planning his meals in advance so he’s not snacking.

The 42-year-old managing director at Red Door Homes said the difference has been both physical and mental.

“One man’s food is another man’s poison. One food might be good for one person, but it might not work for other people.” - Phil Snowden

On the other hand, 31-year-old Mr Snowden has been eating things people perceive to be healthy, such as cereal, 50/50 toast, eggs with sauce, orange juice, rice and chicken.

“All the stuff my clients do, I’m using to get fat,” he said.

“One man’s food is another man’s poison. One food might be good for one person, but it might not work for other people.”

He has also been eating late at night, not planning meals and drinking alcohol, and said as well as gaining weight.

He has also lost motivation and noticed his memory isn’t as good.

Mr Snowden now has to beat Mr Wicking to 14% before December 19.
