Rail passengers are experiencing delays this morning after thieves stole cable from a train line.

Southeastern trains said routes via Sittingbourne and Gillingham were affected, with replacement buses running from Rochester to Gravesend, Faversham to Longfield, and Sittingbourne to Sheerness.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "We apologise to passengers travelling in or through the Medway area who have had their journey disrupted this morning. This is due to cable theft, and Network Rail engineers are on site working to repair the damage.

"We are working with our train operating partners to keep people moving, but advise anyone planning to travel in this area to check their journey at nationalrail.co.uk"
