Travellers have moved on to a popular nature reserve and dog walking spot.

It was confirmed this morning by staff at the Riverside Country Park, in Lower Rainham Road, Rainham, that travellers had entered the site yesterday.

There are a few caravans in the car park next to the visitor information centre.

This comes after the travellers moved from Beechings Playing Field, earlier this week.

It was the sixth time the community had taken over the play park, in Beechings Way, Twydall, since May.

Business owners on nearby Twydall Green had complained of the havoc caused by the travellers.

They had faced thefts, defecation and intimidating behaviour.

Medway Council will have to remove the travellers from Riverside Country Park.

Head of regulatory services at Medway Council, James Brown, said: “We will be following a civil legal process to move the group on as quickly as possible.”
