Police were called after travellers moved into a town centre car park.
A group of camper vans were reported in the car park in Blue Boar Lane, Rochester , at around 8.45pm on Monday, and police were seen at the site the following morning.
Kent Police confirmed reports of an "unauthorised encampment" and said officers were working with the landowner to determine an appropriate course of action.
Rochester West Cllr Stuart Tranter said the group had since been served with a notice to move on under the Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
And he believed the action had followed an altercation in the High Street.
"We were told they will be escorted out of Medway," he said. "There were 14 police officers this morning and they don't get that involved unless there's a public order concern."
