Homeowners had a lucky escape after high winds brought down a large tree this morning.

The 30-40ft tree crashed through a garden fence and blocked Carnation Road in Strood.

Dawn Ellis, of Nottingham Walk, was among those who posted about the incident on social media, and said the tree could have caused a lot more damage.

"My daughter rang me to tell me about it and I walked down," she said.

"If it had gone in another direction it would have gone through a house.

"It smashed the fence in a garden and I'm sure it will be blocking the road for a while. It's huge."

The incident has not caused major traffic problems.
