The incident caused delays for commuters for a short while and despite dealing with the incident quickly, it still had a knock-on effect for those travelling on later trains towards the Capital.

One woman, 25, who was travelling from Chatham to Cannon Street, at about 8am said her train was about 25 minutes late.

She added: “There were a lot of people at Chatham waiting for the service, it was very late.”
