The family of a young Kent woman who died after being hit by a train on the London Underground have spoken of their devastation.

Lisa Inkin, from Gillingham, was struck by a westbound District Line train at London Victoria station last week.

The family of the 21-year-old (pictured right) today paid tribute to the "beautiful" young woman who "would do anything for anybody".

"We are trying to come to terms with the huge gap that has been left in our lives," they said in a statement released through the British Transport Police.

"Lisa was a beautiful, caring and loving daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend, who loved animals and would do anything for anybody. She will be sadly missed by the whole family.

"We wish to express our sincere gratitude for all the messages of sympathy that we have received and respectfully ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time."

An inquest into Miss Inkin's death has been opened and adjourned at Westminster Coroner's Court.

Medics from the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead.

The station was closed for more than an hour after the incident.

One witness, who saw what happened, said: "It happened too fast. Though the train slowed down when coming out of the tunnel. It was too late. Every time I close my eyes, I see the whole scene."

A British Transport Police spokesman has said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
