Children’s television presenter Phil Gallagher saw some of the world’s most iconic landmarks as he travelled the globe for his latest show.
But he is enjoying being closer to home for his next project – starring in panto.
The BAFTA nominated actor and writer, who grew up in Gillingham, is playing Silly Billy in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury. It also stars EastEnders actress Samantha Womack as the Fairy.
The cast has been busy rehearsing since the start of November and the first show is tomorrow (Friday).
Phil, best known for his role as CBeebies’ Mister Maker, said: “It is very exciting to be working with Samantha Womack, I have always been a fan. I used to love her in Game On. Samantha is great to work with. The whole cast is brilliant and it has been a lot of fun.”
Phil attended Canterbury Christ Church University, where he studied radio, film and television , so he has been taking a trip down memory lane in between rehearsals.
He said: “It is lovely to be back. I have got lots of happy memories of Canterbury. I have been walking around seeing what it still there and what has changed, taking my old route through the city and through college.”
He added: “I have been really privileged to be able to travel for the show but it is lovely to be near home.”
