A man and his wife have appeared before magistrates this morning accused of stealing thousands of pounds in an armed robbery of a security van.

Loomis van staff were reportedly threatened with what is believed to have been a small hand gun at Asda in Chatham.

Kent Police were called to the Maidstone Road supermarket at 9.30am on Friday.

A warrant was executed at an address in Gillingham and officers allegedly found a quantity of cash.

Keely Beer, 41, of Firethorn Close, Gillingham, has been charged with robbery and John Todd, 45, of the same address, has been charged with robbery and possessing an imitation firearm.

It is alleged the couple stole £25,000 during the incident.

The pair were remanded in custody at Medway Magistrates' Court and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, August 16.

Neither Beer or Todd entered any pleas in relation to the charges.
