Two people rescued from River Medway mudflats near Sun Pier in Chatham by fire crews

Two people stuck in the mud on the River Medway have been rescued by fire crews.

Police and paramedics were also called to the scene as a boat became stranded in mudflats near the Sun Pier in Chatham at about 8.20pm last night (Friday, June 21).

Crews used specialist mud paths to reach and save the two people from the vessel.

A fire service spokesman says at 9.14pm the incident was "passed into the care of Kent Police".

A coastguard spokesman said rescue teams from Medway and Sheppey were sent to assist - and the crew from Medway secured the boat.

A police spokesman said patrols attended and words of advice were given to the two people.
