Staff and children at a Medway school are paying a touching tribute to fellow pupil Jack Finnis who recently died.

The six-year-old, who suffered from cerebral palsy, passed away last October.

Today a special service will be held for the much-loved and popular boy at Twydall Primary School.

A seat in the lower playground will be dedicated in his memory by school governor the Rev Ann Richardson.

Acting head teacher Catherine Logan and Catherine Johnstone, special education needs co-ordinator, have penned their own words about Jack.

They wrote: “Jack was a very popular little boy. He was always happy and had a good sense of humour. He had been at Twydall Primary School since nursery and had many friends.

“He loved playing in the sand outside class and always had a big grin on his face.

“He used to pretend that he had a quiet voice when his special support assistant was working with him in the class, but whenever she left the room he would shout out names and giggle.

“His classmates always enjoyed this joke.

“Jack joined in with every activity with his class and had some fun on school trips.

“In the classroom, Jack used his special wheelchair, but at play times he went outside in his specially-adapted walker and loved to chase his friends in the playground.

“Jack is fondly remembered by all of his friends and staff at Twydall, and he is often spoken of.”

Dad Liam Finnis is delighted with the school’s kind gesture.

Mr Finnis, who lives in Chatham, said: “He was a brave lad who did not let things get him down. He had a wicked sense of humour.”

Jack has a younger brother, Owen, aged three, sister Megan, 10, and brother Bradley, 16.
