Former Rochester and Strood MP Mark Reckless is one of seven Ukip members to win the party's first seats on the Welsh Assembly.
Mr Reckless is now an Assembly Member for South Wales East, after an election night hailed by Ukip as a "historical success."
The new AM told the BBC: "We will be a breath of fresh air in the assembly. It's been too cosy for too long."
Previously elected as Conservative MP for Rochester and Strood in 2010, Mr Reckless defected to Ukip in 2014, forcing a by-election which he subsequently won.
But just a few months later he lost his seat to Conservative candidate Kelly Tolhurst in the May 2015 general election, much to the delight of the Prime Minister.
Mr Reckless has been in the political wilderness ever since, while his wife has remained as Deputy Leader of Ukip in Medway and ward councillor for Strood South.
His win in Wales has sparked speculation over the future of her political career in Medway.
