A boy is recovering in hospital after hitting his head on a tennis court at school.

The 11-year-old was airlifted to hospital when he fell in the playground at Greenacre School.

He is said to have suffered a number of seizures during the lunch break on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to the Walderslade Road, Walderslade, school shortly before 2.30pm.

The Kent Air Ambulance was scrambled and landed in the field of the school – a specialist sports college – to treat the injured boy.

Crew members administered an emergency anaesthetic and flew him to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, where he is now said to be in a stable condition.

A Medway Council spokesman said: "A pupil was taken to hospital on Monday following an accident in the school playground, where he fell on the tennis court during the school lunch break.

"The incident was dealt with quickly by staff supervising the playground and the emergency services were contacted immediately, who took the student to hospital in London as a precaution.

"The pupil is now recovering well in hospital and we, along with the school, wish them a full and speedy recovery."

Greenacre School is also home to the Greenacre School Sport Partnership, which works to promote sport in more than 50 other schools across Walderslade, Chatham and Rochester.
