Aftermath of fire in Chatham Hill

A man will appear in court on Wednesday charged with the murder of his estranged wife and her 15-month-old son following a devastating fire in Chatham at the weekend.

Danai Muhammadi, a 23-year-old car salesman from Britannia Street, Coventry is accused of killing Melissa Crook, 20, and son Noah at Chatham Hill on Saturday.

He is also accused of attempting to murder Melissa's parents Mark and Amanda, both 49, and her brother Bohdan, 21. He will appear before Medway magistrates.

Police are continuing to question two other suspects. A fourth person, a 37-year-old man from Coventry, has been released on police bail.

Kent Police said Mark Crook remained in a life-threatening condition in East Grinstead Hospital. Bohdan is still being treated at Medway Maritime Hospital - his injuries are described as serious. Mrs Crook has been discharged after being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
