A domestic abuse charity has reassured victims they are still there to support them.

Liza Thompson is the chairman of the Medway Domestic Abuse Forum (MDAF), which has had to close its One Stop Shop at the Sunlight Centre in Richmond Road, Gillingham.

She says she wants to reassure vulnerable people in Medway that charities are "working tirelessly behind the scenes" to ensure there is someone for them to speak to about their issues regardless of the UK's lockdown situation following the COVID-19 outbreak.

"Due the current pandemic the Sunlight Centre is closed and the One Stop Shop is not running," Liza said.

"However I wanted to share with people who may be affected by domestic abuse how they can still access support via phone – not just on Tuesday mornings when there is a specific phone number to call, but also during the other days of the week.

"For more information about the local domestic abuse service MDAS – who have a helpline – can be contacted on 0800 9179948."

“Whilst the One Stop Shop is closed, you can call the dedicated phone line on 07392741309 on Tuesday mornings from 9.30am to midday.”

Anyone who needs information about support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse, or needs advice about family courts is asked to SATEDA on 01795 417760.

Women's charity SATEDA is also offering to help any women who feel vulnerable due to isolation - but aren't at threat of domestic abuse - a volunteer peer supporter who can call them each week for a chat. They can be reached on 01795 417251.
