Violent crime falls by a quarter during Christmas holiday period

Violent crime in Medway fell by more than 26 per cent during the Christmas period.

Police in Medway revealed the figures this week, which incorporated a two week period over Christmas and New Year,.

The reduction, compared to last year equates to there having been 30 less offences.

Chief Inspector Iain Mackenzie said: “Over the two weeks we continued to work closely with our partners and the licensing community to keep Medway a safe place to enjoy the festivities.

Our Safer Winter campaign ensured that there were sufficient Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers patrolling the High Streets and busy areas.

“Our efforts have been rewarded by the reduction of violent crime.”
