A secondary school says it is "committed to driving out violence and racism" after a video of students involved in a brawl went viral.

Shocking footage circulating online appears to show a group of girls fighting at Walderslade Girls' School in Bradfields Avenue, Chatham.

The video shows a young white girl making her way into a classroom and attacking a black student, before a brawl erupts between the girls and their friends.

The youngsters punch, kick and pull each others hair, knocking tables out of the way, while other students watch on, including some recording the incident.

Dozens of students fill the room as the fight takes place, with teachers doing their best to stop the violence.

Many people took to social media to slam the alleged racist attack, including the sister of a 15-year-old girl who was beaten.

Posting four clips of the fight on Twitter, she says her "brave" sister has been getting bullied for the past months "because of the colour of her skin".

She claims members of the traveller community have been responsible, but this has not been verified.

She alleged a group of girls managed to get the room code where her sister and friends were "racially attacked".

"This room has been set up to separate the non-white children having issues with the traveller kids during break time and lunch time. My sister's head was kicked and stamped [on]."

A statement from acting head teacher, Louise Campbell, said: "I am aware of a video circulating social media.

"The school is investigating and has acted on the situation and all parents of all students involved are being informed and kept up to date.

"The school is committed to driving out violence and links of violence connected to racism, homophobia and other discrimination.

"We are committed to the protection and safety of all students and we would ask parents and the community to support us at this time."

Another clip of an angry woman trying to get onto a school bus was posted following the incident.

She can be heard saying: "She better get off this ******* bus. I'm gonna smash her face in."

One parent, who didn't want to be named, told KentOnline today: "My daughter is a person of colour and has been messaging me this morning asking me to pick her up as she's so frightened.

"She's too afraid to walk down the corridor. She's 12-years-old and is petrified.

"There has been race wars at the school for three years now..."

"It isn't a new problem either. There has been race wars at that school for three years now. The racism is so bad."

Parents of children at neighbouring Greenacre Academy rushed to pick up their children early today over alleged threats of violence and knife crime to Walderslade Girls' School.

Head teacher Shelly Bridger said: “In response to the threats made on social media to our neighbouring school, a number of parents collected their children from school earlier today.

"While there was a not a direct threat to Greenacre Academy, we took the matter seriously and worked with the police and our parents today.

"We ensured that all of our students left site safely and most of our staff were on duty supervising their safe exit. There were no incidents in the Walderslade Road area.”

The school has also been asked for comment on these allegations.
