The 29-year-old had been waiting for a bus near the May Moon Chinese takeaway at about 3.30pm when he was dragged into an alleyway and punched by the assailant.

Mr Hannan, who has previously battled three brain tumours, had been volunteering all day at Medway Maritime Hospital and had been making his way home when he was assaulted.

His devastated sister, Daniela Golding, highlighted what happened to him on social networking site Facebook.

The incident happened yesterday (Wednesday).

Mrs Golding, said: “So today my beautiful brave brother - all six stone of him - was dragged up an alley on Luton Road and punched in his precious head, which has already battled three brain tumours, and then mugged him of his wallet with cash and his phone, a Samsung Galaxy s5.

“I am heartbroken because he would not hurt a fly so how anyone can harm him makes me feel sick, he’s been through so much and doesn’t deserve it.

"To the lowlife who did this you might think you're stronger but he’s the strongest person I know and I hope karma gets you bad.”

Mrs Golding asked her friends and everyone who could see the post to share it in the hope the attackers would be caught.

The muggers have been condemned by those who shared the post online.

Cassy Smith said: "Sickening world we live in. As if he hasn't been trough enough. thinking of you all, I hope he's OK."

Aimee Dinkydays added: "Sorry to hear of what happened to your lovely brother.

"I really hope the scumbags are caught and I hope he is feeling better soon.

The person who did this is a coward, how dare they."

Another kind-hearted woman who was upset after reading about Mr Hannan's plight has set up a Just Giving page to raise some money to replace what he had stolen out of his wallet.

Alison Fowler, 28, read about the story online this morning and immediately sprang into action and set up the page.

Mrs Fowler, of Tonge Road, Murston, said: "It is just awful what has happened to him, I was so upset to read about it and my sister has a disability so felt so much for him.

"I hope we will be able to raise enough money to replace what was stolen out of his wallet and if we get enough, perhaps he can buy himself a treat.
