A woman has been hit by a car in a suspected 'fuel rage' incident this morning as the county finds itself in the grip of the fuel crisis.

An appeal has been made for witnesses to the incident after the petrol station worker tried to leap out of the way but was hit on the wrist.

An "impatient driver" caught up in the panic buying frenzy which has led to fuel running dry at forecourts across the country today, is believed to be responsible.

It happened as cars were queuing for petrol at the Berengrave Service Station at Lower Rainham Road, Rainham, just after 1.15pm today.

It was reported to police and the station manager put out an appeal for witnesses.

Kerry Geer wrote on Facebook: "If anyone was in the queue at Berengrave petrol station today and witnessed our staff member get hit by an impatient driver with their car, please contact myself or the garage directly with any information.

"It could have been so much worse."

"We have it on our CCTV but witnesses would be useful."

As other Facebook users responded in horror, Ms Geer explained that the staff member was bruised and shaken but not seriously hurt.

She said the incident led to the garage being closed as staff safety was the business' number one priority.

Ms Geer afterwards explained to Kent Online that the victim did not need hospital treatment.

She explained: "The wing mirror clipped her wrist. There was a nasty bump and bruise but thankfully nothing serious. It could have been so much worse."

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police were called at 1.18pm on Saturday, September 25, to a report of a vehicle wing mirror making contact with a person’s arm while in a petrol station in Lower Rainham Road.

"Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing."

Long queues of vehicles have appeared at petrol stations all over the country during panic buying.

While there is enough petrol and diesel, the national shortage of lorry drivers has meant that deliveries have been severely delayed and forecourts have run out of supplies.
