Waste and recycling collections in Medway have been suspended today (Thursday).

Medway Council says it is monitoring the weather forecast and a decision on how many gritters will be sent out will be made at 2pm.

A fleet of eight was sent out yesterday to treat primary and secondary roads.

Some pavements in Strood, Rochester, Rainham precinct, Station Road, Rainham and Parkwood have also been treated since 7am.

Teams have also been spreading salt by hand at Chatham and Gillingham train stations.

The London-bound section of the M20 is closed due to a jacknifed lorry and fuel spillages between J8, Leeds Castle and J7, Maidstone.

Medway Council and Kent County Council are trying to keep Detling and Blue Bell Hill open.

The council's contractor has 650 tonnes of salt in stock.

Further deliveries are expected during the week.

Some roads are salted as a priority.
