A dad hailed by his family as "miracle man" after surviving eight heart attacks and life-threatening surgery has returned home to spend quality time in his final days.

Double amputee Terry Burrell, 54, has been in a London hospital for more than two months where his devoted wife Lorraine has been told several times to prepare for the worst.

But on Monday night, his final wish was granted when he was discharged from St Thomas's Hospital and taken by ambulance with a specialist medical team to his house in Grain.

Lorraine, his partner of 25 years, celebrated by having a tattoo done on her leg of Bob Marley's Three Little Birds with the lyrics, "Don't worry about a thing, cause every little thing is gonna be alright."

With her daughters Becky, 14, Chloe, 24, and son Lee, 25, they festooned the outside with balloons and banners saying Welcome Dad and Miracle Man.

Lorraine said: "We are over the moon. We did not think this day would ever come.

"He knows he has not got long. We shall take one day at a time and have some quality time together."

Terry, a previously fit CCTV engineer, has spent the last six years in and out of hospital after being diagnosed with kidney failure. He has undergone gruelling surgery including having both legs and a finger amputated.

While back at the family home Seaview, he will have to go to Medway Maritime Hospital three times a week for dialysis, attend St Thomas's once a fortnight and will have carers visit every day.

Lorraine said: "Me and the kids are just so happy to have back. We will spoil him rotten."
