Youths clash and 'weapon brandished' in Gillingham

The police helicopter was scrambled this afternoon after groups of youths clashed.

It was reported to police that two members of one of the gangs threatened the other group with a weapon in Mill Road, Gillingham, near Great Lines park.

One witness reported seeing several response vehicles at Chatham Railway Station and police did confirm part of officer's inquiries included searching a platform.

The police helicopter was called in to help search for the groups

Spokesman James Walker said: "We were called to a disturbance involving a group of young people in the Mill Road area of Gillingham at 2.18pm.

"Officers are conducting an area search to locate the individuals involved and at present no victims have identified themselves to officers.

"Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing."
