Stuck at Schipol Airport, Maddie had been tweeting trying to find an alternative flight to Manchester for this afternoon and at 1pm appeared to have been rescued by a KLM flight.

She tweeted a video of her on the plane, saying: "Wooo wooo. I'm on my way!"

Maddie was a key member of the team which won gold in Rio and the goalkeeper is now playing for Dutch club, SCHC.

Along with team mates, Shona McCallin and Nicola White, she received a heroes' welcome when she returned to her former club in Rochester after the Games

The golden girls met both junior and senior members of the club and posed for a team photo.

"I’ve been at this club for three years," she said. "I’m in Holland at the minute but hopefully I’ll be back in a year’s time."
