Police searched the area and arrested a 39-year-old woman from Chatham on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It is believed the arrest was made shortly after the incident in the area of the nearby Sir John Hawkins car park. She remains in custody this evening.

Forensics crews remained until about 9.30pm at the scene, which was taped off while they examined it for evidence.

Sean Goodearl, whose home overlooks the scene, said: "I can see the forensic team taking shots behind the car park, underneath Peak House which is situated in Manor Road.

"They have blocked off the little road behind the church on the corner (St John's) and the road between the two car parks."

If you have information which can help police call 101, quoting reference 16-1297, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
