Susan Hayward, 56, from Chatham, killed in crash on Chalk Road, Higham

A woman who was killed in a crash which saw six others taken to hospital has been named.

Susan Hayward, 56, from Chatham, died at the scene of the accident in Chalk Road, Higham, on Saturday, December 5.

She was one of four people travelling in a black Ford Focus when it collided with a blue Ford Fiesta travelling in the opposite direction at around 8.30pm. There were three people in the Fiesta.

One man in his 50s suffered leg injuries, a woman in her 20s had back pain, and another man in his 50s suffered leg and shoulder injuries. All three were fully conscious when they were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

As of Monday, December 14, only two of the six remained in hospital – one in a London hospital in a serious but stable condition and the other in a local hospital in a stable condition.

An inquest into Ms Hayward's death was opened at North West Coroner’s Court, Gravesend, on Friday, December 18. The case was adjourned pending a hearing.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail until April 21, 2016.

Officers from the serious collision investigation unit are appealing for witnesses.
