Construction work is underway on a new £1.3million 3G football pitch in Gillingham.

Medway Council, the Football Foundation and Anchorians Football Club have teamed up on the development in an effort to support grassroots football in Medway.

Work has begun on the new pitch

The council is contributing £400,000 towards the project at Anchorians FC's home in Darland Avenue, and has received a £900,000 grant from the Football Foundation.

The new 3G football pitch and changing rooms will be managed and maintained by Medway Council and Anchorians and, once complete, grassroots groups and members of the community will be available to book to use the pitch for training and matches.

Works are expected to be completed later this year.
