Road closed after young boy hit by car in Chatham

A seven-year-old boy has been hit by a car this afternoon.

It happened in Institute Road, Chatham, at 3.43pm near the junction with New Road.

Police spokesman James Walker said: "Officers on patrol in Chatham came across a road traffic collision.

The accident happened just before 4pm

"The incident involved a car and a young child, who is receiving treatment from the South East Coast Ambulance Service at the scene.

"A localised road closure is currently in place and at present the no serious injuries have been reported. "

The boy suffered head injuries and has since been taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

The road has reopened.
