A man in his 20s suffered serious injuries after he was knocked out - but put in the recovery position - at a petrol station in Chatham on New Year's Day.

Officers have released images of a man they would like to talk to in connection with the assault at the Shell petrol station in Dock Road.

The incident is reported to have happened between 3am and 3.20am on Tuesday, January 1.

The victim had walked to the petrol station following a night out.

While he was on the forecourt three men arrived in a silver Nissan Qashqai before exiting the vehicle.

One of the men then spoke to the victim before punching him in his face.

After a few minutes the same man approached the victim once more and punched him again which knocked the victim out before he fell to the floor.

The two other men then put the victim into the recovery position before leaving with the offender in the car.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull, internal bleeding and a temporary loss of hearing.

Since the incident officers have carried out several inquiries however they are now appealing for help to identify the man in the images.
