Firearms officers descended on a convenience store following reports of a man with a weapon.
Police were called to the One Stop in Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham shortly after 2.30pm today (July 6).
There were fears there was an armed man, but, on investigation, the call was found to be a false alarm.
A shopworker, who did not wish to be named, said: “It wasn’t inside the shop but it was right outside.
“We didn’t know what was going on.”
A spokesman for Kent Police said: “The man was located and spoken to.
“No suspicious circumstances were identified and the initial call is being treated as a well-intentioned false alarm.”
