Armed police are in Brambletree Crescent, Borstal, after a man was seen brandishing a gun.

Armed police descended on a residential street in Borstal after a man was allegedly seen with a gun.

Officers were called to the scene after a man was spotted running down the road in Brambletree Crescent, apparently brandishing the weapon at two other people.

The drama unfolded just yards from the village school in Warwick Crescent at the top of Brambletree just before 1pm.

The pupils were allowed to leave the site as normal at the end of the school day.

At around 5pm, firearms officers began leaving the scene. No one has been arrested and no weapons have been seized.

Police, who contained the incident to one house, said no shots were fired and no one was injured.

Earlier, police blocked both entrances to the road and told people to stay away from the area.

At one point, a man - thought to be the owner of the house - arrived at the scene and appeared shocked at what was unfolding.

An armed officer left the cordon to talk to him.

A neighbour who didn’t want to be named, said: “A young man came out of his house after a dispute in the street to fire off a gun and chased people.”

Another man who was walking his dog said he was turned away by armed police who also had dogs.

The 38-year-old said: “There are two entrances to Brambletree and the police have shut both.
