An army wife had the shock of her life when she opened a letter telling her she had to get out of the country in eight days.
Canadian Lacey Doyle, who lives in Brompton, is married to British soldier Peter and the couple have a daughter Isis, two.
She had applied to extend her visa to stay in Britain but received a letter telling her the application had arrived after the deadline so she had eight days to leave and could not appeal.
Lacey’s worried friends rallied round and contacted the Medway Messenger. When we got in touch with the UK Border Agency they agreed to look into her case and granted her a visa on Monday, just hours after we made our approach.
She said: “When I first read the letter, I was heartbroken. It meant I would have to leave my husband behind.
“I couldn’t understand it. It was such a horrible letter.”
She added: “I have now had two calls from the UK Border Agency to say I can stay, but when I get the letter of confirmation, it will be the icing on the cake.
“It’s such a weight off my mind, I can’t thank the Medway Messenger enough for what it has done.
“It has been a really been a stressful time, but thanks to the paper it has now been all sorted out.”
Lacey, who is originally from Calgary, came to England to be with Peter in August last year and they married in September.
