A man in his 60s is being quizzed by police after another man was found with serious head injuries.
Officers are investigating after the 62-year-old victim was discovered near the bottom of stairs leading to a house by a member of the public in Victoria Street in the Luton area of Chatham at 8pm on Sunday.
He was taken to hospital where he currently remains in a life-threatening condition.
The arrested man, who is not known to the victim, is in custody on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Beth Brimmicombe-Wood said: "Although we have arrested a man, we are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and are carrying out inquiries to ascertain how the man sustained his injuries.
"We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have information about what happened and who has not yet spoken to officers."
