Some would argue that Medway’s buses are among the most expensive in the country.
But Arriva Southern Counties is prepared to prove its buses save money over the car.
The firm is challenging some of Medway’s commuters to take part in a study of the costs of cars and buses in the Towns.
They believe they can beat the soaring fuel prices, higher road taxes and recent car parking cost increases.
Arriva are offering free bus travel for those who agree to complete the challenge.
Richard Lewis, the company’s marketing manager, said: “In the current economic climate, people are increasingly watching what they are spending and we believe that buses offer a way for people to reduce their travel costs.
“They are great value for people travelling in and out of towns and cities. There are no parking charges and, with the car being left at home, it’s better for the environment.
“An added benefit of travelling by bus is that you can sit back, relax and let the driver worry about the traffic.
“We want to hear from people who are willing to take part in our test to compare the realities of travelling by car versus the bus.
The company offers passengers a range of tickets to cut costs, with multi-journey tickets able to be used as many times as you like. They can also be transferred to friends and family.
Mr Lewis said Arriva’s cost comparison study starts on October 1. The deadline for those wanting to take part is Sunday September 29.
