A derelict school has been deliberately set on fire.

Firefighters were called to the small fire at the former St John Fisher Catholic Comprehensive School site, in Ordnance Street, Chatham, just before 3pm yesterday (June 9).

Four fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire within 30 minutes.

There were no reported injuries and the fire service said the cause was deliberate.

The former secondary school, which served pupils for almost 60 years, is set to be demolished under plans put forward earlier this year for more than 100 new homes on the site.

Last October about 40 firefighters tackled a large blaze at the building were flames were seen on at least two floors of the building.

The school went on the market last year after pupils relocated to a brand new £40 million single campus in City Way, Rochester in February 2022.
