Two men have appeared in court in relation to an incident where a double glazing window fitter was allegedly attacked with an axe.

The pair, who are said to have got into row about scrap metal, appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court this morning, after both being charged with affray.

Police were called to reports of an assault on a Supaglazing worker in Warren Wood Road, Rochester, on Tuesday afternoon.

Philip Jackson, 34, who works for Supaglazing, denied the offence against him when he appeared.

The case against Jackson, of Caulkers House, Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham, was adjourned and sent to the crown court for trial.

Jackson, who was said to have injuries to his wrist and head, was granted bail and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court, on Friday, July 5.

John Harmer, 22, of Binney Road, Allhallows, also denied the charge against him and he too was granted bail and his case was also sent to the crown court.

Harmer, who was also injured and had a bandage wrapped around his head in the dock, will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on the same day as Jackson.

Two other Chatham men, a 31-year-old arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and a 41-year-old arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm have been released on police bail pending further inquiries until Friday, July 19.

Both Jackson and Harmer had to be been taken to hospital after the incident, at about 1.30pm.

A witness, who did not want to be named, described seeing "a lot of blood" after the alleged attack.
