Medway's first axe-throwing centre to open at Fort Luton

A Viking-loving couple are opening a brand new axe-throwing centre.

Rainham couple Lewis and Kathy Hickman, 33 and 31, are set to open Medway's first range this weekend at Fort Luton in Magpie Hall Road, Chatham.

Lewis said: "This is our first axe-throwing centre and it's also Medway's first. There are a few nearby, there's one in Gravesend, but I'm absolutely buzzing to open this one in Medway.

"Fort Luton is a great location too, it's so different to what you'd normally see."

Alongside their new Axe Masters centre, the husband and wife duo also own a beard care business, The Bearded Viking, which they launched at the end of the coronavirus lockdown in April last year.

Lewis said he began to make his own beard care products because store-bought ones would cause reactions to his psoriasis.

He started by giving the products to friends, adding: "It was just a hobby at first but it became a business. We grew locally as a brand.

"It's growing steadily, and we do a lot of local markets, like Rochester and Aylesford Farmers Market."

He said one day the idea popped into his head to open an axe-throwing centre, to continue the couple's Viking-themed business ventures.

The 33-year-old continued: "I like Vikings. Vikings are cool, and I have a big beard, and axe-throwing is fun.

"I told Kathy and she actually said, 'you know what? Let's do it'.

"I have a lot of ideas and she normally tells me I'm being silly, so when she liked this idea, we knew we had to do it."

People aged 10 and above will be able to take part at the axe-throwing range, and it is suitable for events such as hen and stag parties, team building and birthday parties.
