Bag snatcher who stole woman’s handbag in High Street, Gillingham, admits robbery

A bag snatcher has admitted stealing a woman’s handbag.

Billy Campbell was charged with robbery after a man was seen assaulting the victim, who is in her 70s, in Gillingham High Street on May 23 before fleeing with her bag.

Police were called at 7.39am and around 20 minutes later spotted and arrested Campbell, who matched the description of the suspect, in Skinner Street.

The 25-year-old, from Knight Avenue, Gillingham, was later charged with robbery and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court the next day.

Campbell was remanded to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday when he pleaded guilty and is now due to be sentenced on August 7.
