Barcham delighted to impress Priestfield faithful

Andy Barcham took his goal tally to nine in the 3-1 win over Macclesfield on Saturday.

And he’s delighted to be able to net a few in front of the home fans at Priestfield.

Barcham’s double against Macclesfield followed a goal on Tuesday night against Aldershot but before that he had only scored once on home soil.

“It’s been nice to score in back-to-back home games and to show people here what I can do as well,” said the 22-year-old.

“It feels good to score and that will do my confidence the world of good. I’m enjoying my football at the moment and I’m really pleased.”

Barcham has nine goals from 26 games – a far better ratio than the one goal in 25 games he achieved during a loan spell with Leyton Orient last season.

“I’ve set myself a few targets for this season and hopefully I can keep adding to them and I can reach my target come the end of the season.

“If I can keep putting them away I’ll be pleased with that.”

Barcham had a busy day on Saturday. He scored Gillingham’s second on 72 minutes, conceded a penalty seven minutes later and two minutes before full-time secured the points with his second goal.

He said: “It was a bit tense when I gave away the penalty but it was good to get that two-goal lead again. That relaxed us and although we didn’t play the best of football we got the result.”
