A couple who were forced to call off their wedding when the bridegroom was seriously injured just days before have finally got hitched.

Peter Foreman, 31, and fiancee Ruth Davies, 22, were looking forward to their big day in June.

But the wedding had to be postponed when before Peter was injured at work four days before the big day.

He suffered cuts to his arms, face and one leg after some panes of glass fell on him.

Firefighters freed him and he was taken to East Grinstead Hospital for an operation to repair tendon damage to his left arm.

Ruth pushed the wedding aside and focused on her other half getting better saying “a wedding can be re-arranged – you can’t bring someone back to life”.

Thanks to the generosity of Stephen Degiorgio, manager of the King Charles Hotel, Gillingham, where the pair were due to have their reception, the wedding went ahead on Saturday, September 26.

Mr Degiorgio let them have their ceremony at the hotel free of charge as there was no availability at the Archbishop’s Palace where they had planned to marry.

Ruth, of Wiltshire Close, Chatham, said: “It went really well. We were married at 1pm and had a toast and meal with our family and friends in the bar area before having the evening do at 7pm.

“Everything went according to plan except for the fact we had to use a butter knife to cut the cake . I had to laugh as we tried to cut the cake with it.

“I’m just so grateful to the King Charles Hotel for everything they did. We had a lovely day.

“I’d also like to say a big thank you to Kindred’s Bakery in Luton Village who stored our cake for us. If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have had one.”

Although there is damage to the middle finger of Peter’s left hand, he has returned to work.

Ruth said: “It seems the tendon has stuck itself to scar tissue causing his middle finger to droop. We don’t know if it’s permanent or not, we’ve just got to see what happens.”
