A collision between a motorbike and a car shut the M2 at Medway for more than an hour last night.

The accident happened just before 5.20pm on Tuesday between junction two for Strood and junction three for Chatham on the coastbound side of the motorway.

Police shut all coastbound and London-bound lanes and the junction two slip road so the Kent Air Ambulance could attend the crash.

The motorcyclist was taken to a London hospital by land ambulance and the road was fully reopened at 6.30pm.

The driver of the car was not seriously injured and was taken home.

In a separate incident later on Tuesday at around 8.20pm police were called to shut one lane of the M2 at the Grain junction so fire crews from Strood and Thames-side could deal with a car alight.

The fire had started in the car's engine and took around 20 minutes to put out. No one was hurt.
