The parents of a young motorcyclist killed in a crash in Gillingham have today paid tribute to their "loveable" son.

Jack Angel, 23, died after he lost control of his bike in Courteney Road on Monday night.

He was declared dead at the scene - outside Jewson building merchants - after hitting a concrete bollard in the crash, at around 5.30pm.

In a tribute released today, Mr Angel's family said he will be "greatly missed by his loving family, girlfriend, and many friends".

They said in a statement: "The parents of Jack Angel are devastated by the loss of their eldest son.

"He was a lively, intelligent, loveable young man, who enjoyed life, especially his cars and bikes.

"He had a great sense of humour, he will be sadly and greatly missed by his loving family, girlfriend, and many friends."

Mr Angel suffered serious injuries and a land ambulance and the air ambulance were called, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Friends laid floral tributes at the scene, while friends paid tribute to Mr Angel on Facebook.

Friend Dave Whiteoak said: "RIP Jack man. Shocked to hear this news. Ride like a bat out of hell up there and keep all the birds smiling!"

Alex Bishop posted: "RIP. You will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with your family."

And someone called Pedro Downs said: "We have all lost a friend, biker and a right character. We will not be forgotten. RIP."

It is not thought any other vehicle was involved in the collision.

Kent Police said Mr Angel lost control of his bike for "unknown reasons" and appealed for witnesses.
